View Full Version : Who is God to you?

Just what it says. I'm interested in knowing what we all think.

Obviously no two opinions on this will be exactly the same, but the poll options are worded broadly enough that everybody should be able to find something in their neighborhood. If there's some option I've completely overlooked, enlighten us!

Bump. Sorry for anyone who might have clicked right away expecting a poll. I had to pare down the wording on some of the options. :lookaroun

Bump again. I don't mind if there's no discussion (not like we're going to settle the question here), but the poll seems to be getting some action and I'm interested in seeing more votes.

1 for me personally, but also 2, because I believe that other people's experiences of God are just as legitimate as, even if completely different from, my own. So I don't know, where does that leave me? 4?

It does say "Who is God to YOU" so I am saying 1. OK, fini. I think :lol

I voted 1, but it's somewhat a mix of 1 & 2. Perhaps I should have said 4, but it's mostly 1, so that's what I went with. I think God has many different names, and that just because someone else gives Him (or even Her) a different name doesn't necessarily mean they're wrong. I'm sure most Christian churches would have heart attacks to hear me say such a thing, but that's a primary reason why I do not go to church. I have my own beliefs, and while they mostly follow the Christian way of thinking, it's not 100% :dunno

It is impossible for me to read that without finishing it in my head :lol

This is probably really offensive to a lot of people, but I sort of think He- the same He- appears to different people in different ways. If someone follows a different religion, I kind of still think it's MY God, just showing up in whatever way is easier for someone else to recognize. :blush

I know, I was waiting for all the catholics to jump in and go with it :rotfl

Like the episode of south park where was it Cartman who can't hear the beginning of Styx come sail away without singing the entire rest of the song? :rotfl :lookaroun

I have the same problem with "Ya Got Trouble..." from Music Man.

I think we spend our lives trying to understand the nature of God and those who think they've got it all figured out are sort of like 13 year olds who think they know everything.:lookaroun

Why do you think it's a he? Can it be a she? Or neither?

I didn't use any gender pronouns. :D

I don't even put us and God on the same level as 13 year old and adult... maybe more like human to primate, or dog? :rotfl

God, to angels: Yeah, they do pretty cool stuff, but they occasionally eat their own poop, on purpose!

I'll tell you something, #1, I hope He is merciful. And #2, that He has a really good sense of humor. Or I am in deeeeeeeeep doo doo!

1: We are told He is 2: Look at some of the yahoos around us and tell me you think He doesn't? :rotfl

I feel the same way, Erika.

Most of the commonly known and followed religions teach that God is a He. However, while I think of God as a He because that's how I was raised, I don't discredit the possibility that God may be a She or even neither (or both at once).

People want to assign a gender to God because that's how we operate, we do love our boxes for things :goofy

If there is such a thing as eternal life, and if there is no humor in that place, then screw it, leave me out.

Sounds more like hell to me.:lookaroun

I believe God is a spirit, so God is neither He nor She. God is God. "He" exceeds gender.

Personally, as a Roman Catholic, I'm a 1, but I also think that God is 2 to an awful lot of other religions - and I think they are just as right as I think I am (if that makes any sense).
