"Toy Story 3": Loads of calculated summer delight!
Despite Pixar's drift into middle-aged angst, Woody and Buzz's latest adventure has thrills and charm aplenty

That whooshing sound you hear is the collective exhalation of breath all over Los Angeles County -- and especially in the Walt Disney corporate offices -- as the film industry's suits realize that finally, like a bunch of monkeys accidentally typing the Magna Carta, they've backed a winner. "Toy Story 3," from the ever-reliable purveyors of digital charm at Pixar, is a bona fide summer delight loaded with action, humor, nostalgia, a veritable blizzard of pop-culture references and general good vibes. Add in the extra revenue from widespread 3-D projection, and the dismal Hollywood summer of 2010 has finally found its zillion-dollar windfall.

I was just enjoying this article: http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/weekendroundup-6-18-10.html

really loved the Tim and Tom intervies. Tim calling this movie early Walt Disney. Walt did stuff from the heart.

I've been waiting for this movie for several months.

Wow! The reviews are just now making their way online. Expect this one to make lots of best of lists at the end of the year.

Check out the interactive feature on the NYTimes covering the creation of the new toys.

Guess what film just got a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes!!! I've never seen a recent film do that on that site!!

I like one of the quotes from a reviewer:
How does Pixar keep doing it? I think it's voodoo; does anyone else think it's voodoo?

even the negative reviews I've seen admit it is a good film, and give it 3 stars out of four, so that's impressive for a second sequel. I am going to try and see it for Father's Day. It was Toy Story III or Jonah Hex. :lol

People go see it! Omg it was so awesome! I laughed my butt off with Ken and Buzz and there were parts that made me gasp and of course cry.

Well done Pixar!! And as an added bonus, the short preceding the film was great as well and it actually has a deep message to it :)

Wow! It's at 99% now, but I follow RT to get a feel for movies I'm interested in seeing and that's a pretty amazing score. When I see something in the 80% range, I feel comfortable that it's got to be a pretty good film.

Everything I've heard about this film is good! I decided that I want to go see it with hubby on Sunday. I was out shopping yesterday, and the theater was PACKED. I've never seen so many families out at the movies at one time!

The line for my show last night was all the way to the front door of the lobby (the theater was around a corner in back of the building). The only other times I can recall seeing lines like this for movies was for Phantom Menace (:lookaroun) and Dark Knight a couple years ago. If anecdotal evidence means anything, this movie is going to be a smash...and the 3-D ticket prices will drive the haul up even more.

Went to the movies the other day (Oddie and Nicholas saw Iron Man 2 and Ashley, mom, and I saw Marmaduke). Ashely and I want to see Eclipse and we'll be seeing the Sorcerer's Apprentice, so Toy Story just doesn't fit into the budget. It cost so dang much to go to the movies now days.

Question: has everyone here who's been seeing it, seen it in 3D? Or just regular? Hubby and I want to go today, and he said the reviews say we should see it in 3D, but I'm still not sure. Thoughts?

I saw it in 3-D. If you're waffling over it, I would say the movie should be just as enjoyable on a regular screen. I really didn't notice any 3-D gimmicks. It was just a movie that happened to be in 3-D. Honestly, I kept forgetting I was watching a 3-D film because it just doesn't use the technology very aggressively.

Ryan was feeling all guilty about his toys in the attic.

Linda was crying when Andy's mom was looking around the empty room . . .

. . . I'm thinking I'm going to go up to the attic, find Ryan's old Woody . . . and sneak it into one of his boxes when he's packing up for Rutgers.:lookaroun

. . . do you think he'll think he crawled in there himself?:lol

I'm not sure I'll make it to Eclipse either. Just bought our tickets for the Star Wars exhibit at the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center next month. Nicholas is a big Star Wars fan and he's been excited about it. We'll see the Sorcere's Apprentice for sure though.

I would spend the money on Toy Story instead of Eclipse or even Sorcerer's Apprentice....but I don't care for anything Twilight :lookaroun

As for the regular movie versus 3-D. It didn't make much of a difference really and like Beej said I forgot we were seeing it in 3-D :lol

I love the Twilight books, so I enjoy seeing the movies. Don't agree with their choices for Bella and Edward, but oh well. :lol

Movies cost so much now days, that what the kids want to see has to come first. . At their age, they'd rather see something like Sorcerer's Apprentice than an animated film. :dunno Ashley would sit through it, but I'm not sure Nicholas would care to. I usually just wait to see the one's I really want to see.

Best movie I've seen in a long time--very well done. And yes, I cried. The guy next to me was blubbering.

However, when is the 3D fad going to wear off? EVERY preview we saw was being pitched as 3D. Enough already! :circles

My sister said she was telling my mom about the movie, and mom was saying how grateful she was that she never threw out our old toys on the off chance they might be alive. :lookaroun

I told sis to dig up some old ones and leave them sitting out for her to find, with notes saying PLAY WITH ME. :D

what do you mean, "why are my eyes red?" Allergies. :lookaroun

Ok, fine, you've busted me, but I was NOT blubbering. I managed to hold my breath. :lol

Emily was home for Father's Day weekend and we all 4 went and saw it as a family. Maybe it was extra special to those of us who had boys who just graduated from high school, I don't know. I am not a big fan of sequels, but I will throw that rule out the window for this film.

We did see it in 3D only because Emily wanted to do so, but I'd have been just as happy to watch it (and think it would have been just as good) without the 3D effects, whatever they were.

Toy Story seems to be the only movie where the sequels just keep getting better. :) I hear that Godfather II is better than the first, but I honestly don't know which one is which so I couldn't say :lookaroun :blush They all seemed the same to me LMAO

The only thing I can't stand about Toy Story 2 is Jessie. She drives me nuts. :lol

I've heard our local dollar theater is pretty nasty inside now. :sick I'll ask around to see if anyone has been there lately. I may try to sneak off and see it by myself.

Doug, a friend of mine took her family to see it yesterday and cried also. Her daughter just graduated HS. I can see where it would make one tear up.

Wow. Just... WOW. I loved it!!! We ended up seeing it NOT in 3-D, and I was still very much impressed. And yes, I cried too. I cry at everything, but I can usually hold the tears back. Not since I got pregnant, though LOL. My husband (who introduced me to Toy Story and Toy Story 2) didn't seem as excited as I was to see it, but after the movie was over, he couldn't stop raving about it. I swear I even saw him wipe at his eyes :love It was well worth the money, and I can't wait to see it again (we'll probably wait until it comes out on DVD though haha)

As for the 3-D trend... I don't think it's going anywhere. They're selling TVs that do 3-D now :faint

:lol I think there are two reasons the Hoop-De-Do Review is popular at Walt Disney World.

The people who like "YeeeeHawww" get a hearty dose, and the people who don't get plenty of beer included with the price of admission to make it tolerable. :lol

My first viewing of TS2 start to finish (had seen bits on cable) was last year, when they screened the 3-D double feature of both original movies. :lol

That was really a fun promotion...especially with the little trivia segment in between the movies. I didn't want to get up to pee because the intermission fodder was so entertaining. :lookaroun

LOS ANGELES - The "Toy Story 3" gang and Adam Sandler are finding plenty of playmates at movie theaters. Tom Cruise is not so popular, though.

The Disney-Pixar Animation smash "Toy Story 3" remained the No. 1 film with $59 million in its second weekend, raising its domestic total to $226.6 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.
