Experts unanimously agree that you should NOT pre-rinse your dishes before loading the dishwasher.

Why not? Because your dishes will not get any cleaner if you rinse them before loading your dishwasher. Pre-rinsing is therefore a complete waste of time, water, energy, and money. And, in some cases, it can actually harm your glassware.

Still not convinced? Here are the details.

It drives me crazy when people wash the dishes before they go into the dishwasher...that's what the machine is for, it WASHES dishes. I just scrape the excess into the garbage, the water is hot and there is plenty of soap. :lol

I don't wash, but if there is crud I will soak it, knowing that it will just be there again after I take it out if I don't.

Stupid crud :goofy

Same here.

My parents rinse prior to washing because it is a "preventive measure" for keeping the septic tank ok.

Joy is a pre-rinser and I will never be able to change her.

My parents had a dishwasher - a VERY INEFFICIENT one. (ew) The one they have now is great, but I just can't shake the notion that dishwahsers don't truly clean the gunk off, because those dishes used to come out almost as dirty as they went in. As a result, I've never owned one myself. Our new place has a brand new dishwasher, so I guess I'm going to have to change my ways. LOL

Well, we don't rinse, but we do scrape as much solid matter off the dishes to keep it out of the septic tank. We also do not pour any grease/gravy/etc down the sink.

Old septic systems had what is known as a "grease trap." A grease trap is basically a mini septic tank for grey water. Newer septic systems don't have grease traps, and if you have a two story house, it's difficult to separate the brown water drains from the grey water drains.
