I don't get why artists and film designers always feel they need to put their "stamp" on characters and change designs that are iconic and have been around (in most cases) since before the artist was born.:shrug

It always strikes me as a form of hubris. People like the classic designs because they are used to seeing those designs and they remind them of their youth. When artists start screwing with designs, they lose that visual, emotional connection. Why not just create a new character instead of screwing with the established one?

In this case, if they wanted to add long pants and a jacket, they could have done so with a design that was otherwise much more in line with the classic design.

It's interesting that Linda pointed out the other day that the clothes Ryan's friends wear would have looked perfectly normal in our high school. . . yet, when we were in high school, there's NO WAY anybody would have been caught dead in clothes that would have looked appropriate 30 years previous.

IT'S SO TRUE!! I look at some of the clothing and I think, "Huh..it's like I stepped back in time." Especially with that windswept look? Some pieces have taken root, some, not so much.
