What did you think? Sincere? Insincere? Did he say the right things? Was there a glaring omission? Can he/Will he save his marriage?

Here is a link to his apology/statement this morning in case you missed it.

I can understand why he would apologize to his wife, children, and family. But why is it again he should be apologizing to the public?? He's a star athlete that got caught in a sordid number of affairs. How does coverage of that affect me in my immediate life? The answer is it doesn't. If people are pissed at him they need only be pissed at themselves for making someone they knew absolutely nothing about their own personal hero. I haven't watched the press conference and won't, but I just find the media's coverage to be a tad bit too much.

Endorsement money, Gordon. You know that for all the money Tiger Woods makes on the golf course, that is a drop in the bucket compared to what he earns in endorsement contracts. I don't mean to be cynical, because I read his treatment demands that he take this time and try and make amends with his family and friends, and then he is to resume his therapy. So maybe the big reason for the apology was required to get well.

I don't mind saying I started out way back very skeptical of Tiger Woods the golfer. His talent and his persona won me over a long time ago and I have been a big fan of Tiger the golfer. I'm hopeful he can put his life together.

I wouldn't say I was "mad" but it was sure disappointing to hear about everything. I was holding out hope he was one of the good guys, as most golfers seem to be.

But honestly, I haven't spent much time thinking about him, or the situation, unless it's brought up to me in some way.

Tiger’s press conference didn’t bother me, what did was the press conference held by one of his mistresses and Gloria Allred demanding an apology from him. Excuse me, apology for what now?

Seems to me this is between Tiger and Elin, and the public has no right to know anything else about it.

I agree with both points, Doug.

Indeed. Apology for what? Their 15 minutes of fame didn't last longer? Go away, girls.

I felt that most of the speech was rehearsed. That doesn't mean that he didn't write it or mean it. It just didn't feel real. The parts about his family... the one where he was talking about his wife not hitting him that night, and also the part where he asked the media to leave his family alone, were the only times I saw any passion or feeling out of him. But what he said is true. All these details the press wants to know about the affairs, and his marriage, are between him and his wife. Yes, being a public figure, I think it's understandable that his life is splashed all over the news. I don't think it's RIGHT... but when you're a star, you know longer have much privacy. That's just one of the prices of being famous.

I hope he gets the help he needs and can get his life back on track. I don't know if I believe he's sorry. But I do hope that he comes to mean it eventually.

I was impressed by how he stood up for his Buddhist faith, and said if he had stuck to his spiritual beliefs, this wouldn't have happened. (I read it as a subtle "MYOB" to Brit Hume, who suggested the only way he could recover from this was to become a Christian. It's also rare for a celebrity in this culture to openly embrace an eastern faith, as far as I can recall.) :shrug

Yes, me, too.

I notice the pundits are all over Tiger for the "staged" nature of his remarks. But why should he HAVE to answer media questions? Really, it's no one's business but Tiger's and Elin's. 'Nuff said.

I've never understood the entitlement mentality the media has when it comes to celebrity access. Unless he's a public official spending taxpayer money, he doesn't have any obligation to return anybody's calls.

J.D. Salinger really got under their skins by being so reclusive. Some people just want to work and live their lives.

(And make millions of dollars in the process.) :lookaroun

Then so be it, and more power to them. If you don't want your kids to hero-worship sports and entertainment figures with feet of clay, then provide them with other role models. Other than that, it's none of my cotton-pickin' business.

I was most impressed with his "my greatest apology to Elin will not come in the form of words, but in my behavior."

I think the whole thing is part of his therapy process and I think he was sincere. Sure, it sounded rehearsed, but it was typed out and I'm sure he's gone over it a few times. He was probably making sure he guarded his words carefully, so it was all scripted out.

And, I agree with him--leave his family alone, especially his kids.

I do not know how people expected him to sound. Can you imagine having to do that? In front of THE WORLD? :faint

Headline is the best part; I didn't read the whole thing, but there is some naughty language.

:rotfl Did you get this far?

Woods said that during his brief time away from sex, he couldn't stop thinking about one day resuming his daily regimen of sexual intercourse with random women who look vaguely like his wife, only skankier
