Are they still impossible to open without sticking the straw through the back of the foil? I can open them just fine (lots of practice). The little ones have a hard time drinking out of them. Until they learn how, they end up wearing it, or squirting it across the table.

She will be working with the Newark Bears. It's just an internship for now, but if it turns into a full time thing then she will probably relocate a bit closer. Her past internships have been here in NY just about 45 minutes from home with a Rays affiliate; the bears are in an Independent League .

My second summer with the Renegades, I worked for a guy who had a futon in front of his desk in the annex office. He had like an hour and a half commute, and some days the turnaround was so short that it wasn't worth going home. Every time I looked at it, that was all I could think of.

It's part of the new security, saw it on CNN.com (I think) this morning. They will know if your info is accessed from different points and alert you to see if you have been hacked and somebody is stealing info. It's in response to the new "we're going to make you share all your info with us and then we will share it with the ENTIRE universe" accusations.

Aaaand one more, Lauren's D.A.R.E essay.

I could go on all day telling you guys the things I learned during dare but I’m sure everyone else would like to read theirs. What I’ve learned during dare will help me stay drug-free and to avoid violence. I’ve learned that tobacco has over 200 known poisons or toxins and how to confidently stand up to people who are bad or are offering me a drug. I think that staying away from gangs will help me stay away from drugs. From all of the things I’ve learned I will never take drugs because I have better things to do. I will also never take drugs because then I wouldn’t be able to play my two favorite sports softball and volleyball because they both involve a lot of running and it would be very difficult to run while taking drugs. The skills I’ve learned will help me throughout my whole life and I am very glad I got to participate in D.A.R.E. I promise I will make the right decisions about alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs. Thank you

Whenever we were told something and then asked to spout it back, I always wrote something obnoxious. In that case, I probably have written something like: "I learned that adults will lie and mis-represent the dangers of drugs in their efforts to indoctrinate kids into not taking the types of risks that might allow them to actually learn from experience rather than being condescended to by a generation that used to take acid like it was Pepto Bismal.":lookaroun

I'm doing just fine! I am definitely feeling the baby move now. Too early to feel it on the outside, much to Stan's disappointment, but enough for me to know there is definitely something growing inside me. I had my glucose test done yesterday... I have to admit, I'm a little nervous, since I'm overweight to begin with. I'm crossing my fingers that I won't have gestational diabetes, but I've known from day one that it's a possibility. Hopefully we'll find out at my next appointment, which is on the 26th.

Fingers crossed for you! Isn't that fun to get to know the baby? :love Every one of my kids had their own personality from even then, it was always so interesting to me :lol

Oh yes. I can tell which foods make it very happy (chocolate... oh Lord) and while I know it sleeps most of the day, I know when it will usually be active. I'm going to try to get some books this weekend and start reading to my belly :love Though I'm not sure if I should read children's books or if just reading outloud from anything will be good? I'm not trying to make the baby smarter or anything. I just want it to hear the sound of my voice mostly. And reading to it seems like a good a way as any.

I think any reading is good, though I have heard that women who sing a song through their pregnancy notice that the baby recognizes it after he or she is born. :)

Does it usually wake up 10 minutes after you've laid down to go to bed? :lookaroun

Get a racking chair now and rock every evening (after dinner worked best for me). Once the kids were born as soon as they got fussy I would rock them and they fell right to sleep.

I sing sometimes, but it's usually just some song that's stuck in my head. I'm not a great singer and have never been comfortable singing out loud unless it's with music that's already playing.

I keep expecting it to wake up when I lay down for bed, but so far it hasn't. Perhaps this child will love sleep just like it's parents *fingers crossed* lol

A good chunk of my absence is that the real world keeps me more occupied than it used to - having an hour commute to work instead of 10 minutes also cuts down on the spare time!

But happy to report that all continues to go well.

We recently spent a couple of nights camping at a "theme park" called Woodlands. It's not really a theme park, but what it is is a very nice change of pace in some great surroundings. http://www.woodlandspark.com/

The tent got it's christening. A little on the cold side, but nothing snuggling up could not cure. Though needing the bathroom at three in the morning is a little more inconvenient.

Last weekend we went to my folks and pitched the tent in their garden. Made for a much nicer night's sleep than on a chair.

My sister saw me looking at your photo Doug and since she is quite the avid fisherwoman herself (Good Lord. Did we even come out of the same womb?) she was inquiring what the fish was and where you were fishing.

That is a tarpon a/k/a silver king. :king I caught it in the Boca Grande Pass, in Florida. It is a little fishing spot about 90 minutes south of Tampa.

Bring on the chips and batter!

:D Can you imagine? This fish is no good for eating. In the old days, trophy hunters would haul the fish out of the water, string it up on a rack at the marina, take a photo and then throw the fish away. Such a waste! Nowadays, we measure the fish's size via tape measurements while he is still in the water and then he is released without ever even being taken completely out of the water. Much better for the fish, and the guide on my trip said these efforts have resulted in a much healthier tarpon population than he has seen in decades, and he has 27 years of experience. :)

Sara never wore anything but a one-piece - her choice. (We were lucky, I know.) I think there are plenty of great-looking one-piece suits, but it's natural for your girls to want to dress like their friends. Tankinis are a perfect compromise. There are lots of cute designs available, and they're plenty modest. (Is Andy's objection to bikinis totally modesty-oriented, or is there an element of sun protection in there as well?)

At a certain point, a bit of give and take works better than an outright command, and when you live with teenagers, you have to pick your battles, or EVERYTHING becomes a war. :shrug

Yes, it's purely a modesty thing. This is a battle he's willing to fight, and in my mind, worth it. You dress according to what we say is appropriate, until you are out on your own and making your money to buy your clothes, then we have no say in it. For now they're all just saying they won't go to the pool all summer if they can't wear their bikini (because it isn't just Kaitlyn :rotfl )

We should've started this a long time ago truthfully, so it wasn't even something they thought about. :blush Our oversight big time there.

Oh, I know. I was talking about the one with blue people, that Christy had referenced in her original post.

I've never seen the series you are talking about, but my kids have. At least, I know Emily has. I do remember seeing the trailer for the one you are talking about: "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and it concluded with a mountain-full of people coming after a little kid, and then we heard nothing for a long time and James Cameron's blockbuster comes out and is obviously not the same movie, and now I hear the name has been changed of the other Avatar movie, the one based on the series.

Avatar, the block buster was visually impressive in the 3D on the big movie screen. I'm not sure how it will be on the second viewing, on a regular television with no 3D effects.

Sticker shock: All the stores offered the same type of food, including fresh fruits and vegetables. But the prices were vastly different. The average price for a market basket of food at Whole Foods was between $370 and $420, compared with the same basket of food at Albertson's for $225 to $280.

I know we've talked about this before :lol but dang! We're in the $225 - $280 group as well (something like that). I have found a few things at Whole Foods to be less expensive than Publix. I buy most of our stuff at Publix (since it's right up the street). Winn Dixie is across the street from Publix, so I get a few things from them as well. Both stores offer natural and organic products. It's easy to maintain a healthy diet by shopping at either of those, as they do also put their organic products on sale. Even if you don't do organic, Publix has wonderful produce that has some really good sale prices.

Christy, I have to agree with you on the grass fed beef. My parents brought back some from the Amish store in Indiana, near her cousin's house. Best steak I've ever had in my life. I'm sending a cooler up with her, when she goes in a couple of weeks.

Back then (in the '60's) you could, don't know if you can now. I don't know when she acquired the monkey, it just always seemed to be there.

Hey all! Hope everyone is doing well!

Summer break is treating me well! I've tried two cases so far... lost my first one ( I like to think of this as a character builder... haha!) and won my second one. The defendant appealed in open court, and it will be going to superior court. The Boss wants me to handle the appeal... which means I will trying my first case in front of a jury! :circles :circles :circles It is set for July12th! So nervous I could :sick

In other Kaitlyn news, she has her learner's permit now :faint I let her take me on a white knuckle ride around the neighborhood and was astounded by how little she knows. I mean, she didn't even have the basics of gas/brake yet. :faint It was awful. So we're sitting in the garage and going over that several hundred times before we endanger any more parked cars :rotfl Nothing to do with her besides inexperience. She'll get it, I know, but I was talking to another mom who grew up in the country like I did, and we were driving all the time well before we should've been :rotfl Just around the yard with the trucks, or even on 4 wheelers, etc. So by the time it was time to really be on the road you at least knew the very basic stuff. One of your kids is driving?!?! Holy crap I'm getting old! Why did I still think they were all little, little girls? :cry :blink

Can you guess the "artist" that did this?

He allegedly flipped off a colleague's wife who tried to help him when he fell off a bar stool drunk, and "palmed" a woman's breast at a publicity event in Indiana while saying "these are great tits!" And then there was the time he supposedly relieved himself on a Winnie the Pooh statue in a Disney hotel in Anaheim, Calif., while saying, "This one's for you, Walt." (Imagine Ashdown Forest at daybreak, and Winnie is drenched from a spontaneous shower; Tigger, Eeyore flee in terror. Title: "Golden Moments.")

Epic doesn't even begin to cover it.

After ten hours, 153 games and almost 1,000 points, American John Isner and Frenchman Nicolas Mahut were locked at 59-59 in the fifth-set of their historic first-round match at Wimbledon when play was suspended for the second straight day due to darkness.

You read the score correctly: 59-59. When the Wimbledon final had a 16-14 final set last year, that seemed like a marathon. In comparison, this match was like running to the moon.

For a good laugh read this live blog of the match. He really starts going at about 4:05 p.m.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd it's over.

John Isner wins 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 70-68 And that's it! It all felt so unreal as Isner wound up his arm like a professional softball player and fired an unstoppable forehand straight down the line to make it 30-40 and bring up match point. On the next point Mahut came rushing down the court after his serve, the Rage in full evidence as he bore down on his opponent, but in a moment of clarith Isner simply drove his backhand straight back past his opponent down the line. Just like that, the curse is lifted. Our protagonists are human once more. After 11 hours, five minutes and 115 aces, the match has ended.

WIMBLEDON, England – John Isner of the United States outlasted Nicolas Mahut of France, 70-68, in the fifth set of their epic three-day first-round match at Wimbledon on Thursday. In an astonishing display of endurance, the players fought for 11 hours and 5 minutes, breaking all records for length of match, games played, and aces served.

When it ended, the All England Lawn Tennis Club awarded bowls of commemoration to the players and the chair umpire, Mohammed Lahyani of Sweden.

Isner called Mahut “an absolute warrior” in an on-court interview. Mahut, acknowledged the crowd’s support, calling it “amazing these last three days.”

“John deserved the win,” Mahut said. “I don’t know how many aces. It was an honor to play and we played the greatest match ever in the greatest place to play.”

Isner finished with 112 aces to Mahut’s 103. The historic struggle boiled down to an epic battle to break the other player’s serve. Isner finally managed it in the 138th game of the set, when he had a break point at 30-40 and fired a backhand passing shot past Mahut at the net. It was Isner’s fifth match point.

The players started Thursday’s portion of the match tied 59-59.
