Congrats Lindz!!! :thumbs

Just to kinda let everyone know...things with work didn't exactly work out the way I was hoping. Rather than go down in flames and get fired at the end of the season, or do a great job and allowed to stay, I did a pretty amazing job, and was let go yesterday. The team's owner came in last week, thanked me and the other guy in the department for all of our hard work this summer, and told us that the internship program was over on the 15th. If they want us back, they'll call us in to interview in October. Fantastic stuff huh? Gets better. The team is being sold. There are a few possibilities with that. One puts the team in great hands, and I'll be back as of Oct 1, with everyone, right where I belong, as Box Office Manager. One puts the team with a guy who is...awful. Ex-con who got out of jail on a technicality, dirty cop, and all around asshat. He wants me back, as the Director of Ticketing. The only reason is that he NEEDS me more than I need him, and hes going to give me a fancy title to keep me. Everything about him is flimsy, and total BS. But, its still a VERY real possibility. Clearly, if he gets the team, I will NOT be sticking around.

I've started interviewing for Box Office Manager jobs in the midwest, and the east coast, but I really want to stay in Newark. I've done too much good work to totally give up, and the people I work with are amazing. This whole thing is just... baffling. I'm taking a week and headed to Tampa to sort of re-group and relax, but I'm already going crazy. Its not going to be fun.

If anyone has any spare good thoughts or prayers, or karma, please throw them my way.

I hope it all works out, Katie. If you're as dedicated to your work as it sounds like online, then surely you shouldn't have much trouble finding a job if it comes to that.

Katie, you're in my thoughts and prayers EVERY DAY. I know all too well the frustration of waiting for things to happen when you're worried and anxious, but I believe firmly that things will work out for you, and soon. Enjoy your time in Tampa, re-charge the batteries, and come back refreshed and ready for a round of interviews. :hugs

Sorry to hear that. Hope things work out for the better - they typically do for people who work as hard as you.

While Newark is the cultural center of the Universe:lookaroun you'll likely find someplace else that you will like just as much once you get to know the area and people.

Good Luck!!

Is it really as cheap as that pic suggests...slathering the hair with some colorful goop, and handing him a plastic sword and shield? The fact that that kid is still sporting a T-shirt and khakis instead of some kind of "royal" getup really detracts from the effect IMO. :shrug

Hi everyone. I'm finally home. In case any of you missed it on Facebook, I went into labor Saturday (well, technically Friday, but didn't realize it was the real thing til Saturday) and had the baby via c-section. She was born at 10:41pm, and 5 lbs, 13 oz, 19 inches long. The only reason a c-section was needed was because I got to 9.5 cm dilated fairly quickly, and then got "stuck". The baby's heart rate showed she wasn't very happy about that, so they did a c-section to be safe. She's so precious and perfect and we love love LOVE her! :love

The only negative about the whole thing? The first epidural they gave me didn't work, and I had some pretty painful contractions happening before they gave me the blessed second one.

Pictures are on Facebook for now. I have to upload the ones on my camera to this laptop, and right now I'm struggling just to write this through the pain meds I took not too long ago :lol

Got to go - baby Skye needs to feed!

It's those crazy hormones! They are going to take some time to come back to normal so just go with the flow. Follow your instincts, if you are unsure then call the doctor; many times the nurse can talk you through whatever you have going on. You have to remember to sleep when she does, no matter what. Limit your guests if you have to, don't be afraid to ask for help and keep yourself nourished and hydrated (funny how a bit of dehydration can make you crazy). And the laundry/dishes/housework will always be there so don't exhaust yourself trying to make everything perfect.

Yeah, I'm definitely trying to sleep when she does. Also, Stan took a couple weeks off work, so I'm not doing all this on my own right now.

We had our first appointment with the pediatrician today, and he said she looks beautiful!! Everything good, no weight loss, no jaundice, everything looking great!

(WARNING - TMI coming up! But I need advice, if anyone has any.) We're having some issues with the breast feeding right now - my milk is in, and I can't tell if she just doesn't like it or what. It's suddenly a struggle to get her to latch on and stay there, and even if I do, she spits up whatever she ate, and we end up giving her formula (Enfamil, thankfully - no Similac here!) so she's fed. We were doing fine the last couple days, and then after the doctor's everything changed. I'm not sure if it's stress on my end (I got some fairly bad news today that I'm not quite ready to share) that's causing the change - my doctor said stress and such can effect how she takes to the breastmilk. I'm trying not to let it frustrate me further, but it's hard - I thought I was doing well and now I feel like a failure. I don't mind pumping the milk and giving it to her via bottle, either - I tried that, too, but again she just spit it all up. Sigh.

First of all you are not a failure! :hugs

Try to relax (I know, easy to say and hard to do), drink your fluids and keep on trying. I always expressed a drop or two first so they would know it's time to eat. Make sure you give her enough time to nurse. Does she keep the formula in and not the milk or does she spit up both? Have you changed your diet? I could not eat cucumbers or peppers while I was nursing as Katie would spit up, I was unable to nurse Emily.
Make sure you keep your doctor informed and remember ...you have already accomplished the hardest job - bringing a new life into this world and having to use formula is nothing to be ashamed of.

Whenever you are ready to share your news please know we will all be here for you :hugs:hugs

Maybe switch to a bland diet, I know foods we eat can affect how it tastes :dunno And yes, make sure to give her plenty of time to eat, it should be a time for you two to relax and bond, so just make it mommy and baby time, let everything else be secondary :hugs

And I never made it past day 2 of trying to breastfeed Kaitlyn, and she's not any worse off for it. :flower

What Mad and Christy said :hugs

I had a hard time nursing Nicholas (he never did latch on correctly), and Ashley started out well (but had to have formula too because she didn't get enough), but ended up on nothing but formula due to post partpartum depression. A good friend was due a week after me. Our Dr's were on the same team. We had our ultrasounds the same day (back to back), Dr visits , ect. At 36 wks, she lost her baby. I had Ashley the week her baby was due and brought her home on my friends due date. I felt so bad for them and I had so much guilt over having my baby, when she had lost hers. I had to take a med. that didn't allow me to nurse (now, I believe that have meds you can take while nursing. Not sure though). If you end up having to use formula, please don't feel bad about it. You are in no way a failure. You are doing GREAT! :flower

Greetings from sunny Tampa! :wave

I found out the other day, that the jackass got the team, so my days in Newark are done. He offered me the job as Director of Ticketing, which is clearly not entry level, at entry level pay. He also fired EVERYONE on staff but two people, one I hate, and one who I can barely work with since he has no real respect for me. I'm emailing him on Monday to let him know that after taking the weekend and thinking things through, I will not be returning.

I also found out that if I do choose to stay, I'll be out of a job before Christmas, since they'll run out of money. This info came from the former CFO, and hes the only person on staff I generally trusted, so thats a safe bet to be true.

So, yeah. If anyone needs a Box Office Manager, let me know! :lookaroun

A bland diet, no caffeine, no gas-producing foods like broccoli and cauliflower, etc. - all of these will help, but some babies just have a hard time with nursing at first, no matter what you do. Keep trying, and follow your doctor's advice. AND - if it turns out that nursing isn't right for you and your little one, that's OK, too! :hugs

:lookaroun

:hugs to you, too, Katie. Something better will be coming along, I have NO doubt about that, but I know all too well how frustrating it can be to wait. :flower Hang in there.

Hellllllooooo, Jabber Jaw! I'm back from my two weeks in NY, taking care of final details for our closing in NY (which I am still praying will happen in the next two weeks...seems like it's taking FOREVER!) figgydad and I also cleaned out my parents' house, helped them get it market-ready, and I flew with them back out here to Minneapolis. They are safe and sound in their beautiful assisted-living facility just down the road, where I can see them as often as possible, and make sure they are safe and happy.

It really does, Mad. They've already had to use the call button twice, so its worth its weight in gold. :flower I hope they make some friends there. The place is small, which is nice because it's intimate, and everyone watches out for everyone else, but that also means that there isn't a wide circle of potential friends. It took me a loooooong time to adjust to being out here - actually, I'm really not fully adjusted yet, although I think that's because our old house has taken so long to sell. I know it will take them some time.

. . . but I do get annoyed with the BMI since it doesn't take into account muscle. Arnold Shwarzeneger, at the height of his training, would have been labeled 'obese' by a simple BMI.:rollseyes

. . . and on a vaguely related note, did anyone notice (last week?) when Michelle Obama was talking to kids about obesity and the headline in my paper proclaimed that she "Practices What She Preaches".

When I saw the headline, I thought, "Cool, maybe she'll be running the half-marathon with me in Jan.":lookaroun

JOE!!!! What's new?!?

As you gathered from Facebook, I've put my apartment on the market. Unfortunately the estate agents have brought incompetence to new heights

They have an advert that says they can sell the property within six weeks. However, when they fail there is no comeback, it's a case of they can, not that they will.
They lied about it's worth and the six week challenge to get me to sign the contract.
They lied about lying about it's worth - but forgot that I have that quote in writing.
Only after a complaint to head office did they start to do their job, but then botched up by saying they had a cash buyer.
Turned out they needed a mortgage.
Four weeks later they admitted the person was self-employed with less than six months trading - a dead cert for being tuned down for a mortgage.
They lied again about their original quote of it's worth - forgetting that they'd forgotten about my having it in writing.
We lost the house we were going to buy.
Two weeks on, there is still a "Sold" sign outside the apartment as they can't be arsed change it and inside their office, the apartment is not listed.
Plus a host of other more minor but still annoying cock-ups.

As a recent, battle-scarred veteran of the real estate wars, my sympathies are with you. First, take down the SOLD sign. If need be, dump it on the estate agents' front step. Can you switch agents, or are you locked into a contract with them for now? If they've violated the terms of your original agreement with them, you may be able to get out of it early. :hugs

Locked in until January 4th. We have had three other agents look at the property to take it over on the assumption the morons won't extract their thumbs from their butts long enough to sell it.

They have a strict complaints procedure. On complaining to their head office they have to be given two opportunities to rectify the situation before it goes to the ombudsman - who have some legal clout.

Their first attempt to rectify was prior to the farce with the buyer that had no hope of getting a mortgage. They offered a 10% discount. They have a few days to make the second attempt to rectify. I'm not holding my breath for them to bother with anything. But we have every cock-up and lie documented.

Our real estate agent was just plain lucky that a buyer came along and the place sold - TWO WEEKS before our contract with him expired. The sale was no thinks to HIM, by the way - another agent brought the buyers in. Our agent was totally useless - but boy oh boy, was he Johnny-on-the-spot at the closing - wanted that commission check, you know. The one he did NOTHING to earn. I had another agent all lined up and ready to go if the house hadn't sold when it did. The house sold for a sickening amount LESS than he had assured us it would, too, thus adding insult to injury. We had already committed to buy our new place out here, so we didn't lose it, but it sure is costing us a lot more than we had planned. :rollseyes I'm sorry you guys lost the place you wanted - that must be frustrating. :hugs

while out shopping today, I saw four options for purchasing an i-pod. The largest looks like an i-phone, only it isn't a phone. The second largest looks like a tradional i-pod on steroids - way too big to be lugging around all the time. The third largest, which is also second smallest looks to be little bigger than a postage stamp, and the smallest is ridiculously small.

What happened to the reasonable sized i-pod in the middle? Honestly, did Apple mean to eliminate the reasonably sized mp3 player?

I was late to the party on the whole MP3 player and online music download business but I've not heard much bad about the Apple products - that's not to say the critiques aren't out there.

Why do you dislike Apple?

More importantly, what makers do you endorse for their MP3 players and music download stores?

I don't have a problem with Apple's products. And I'm not just being biased because they're in my back yard rhetorically speaking. Their stuff is easy to understand and it's VERY user friendly. Plug and play. I've been an Apple user for MP3 music products since the first iPod was released in 2001 and I've never had a problem. I would HIGHLY recommend it.

Apple charge a HUGE premium for a fancy case and restrictive products that don't work with other products.

They have a fanatical following blind to the fact that they are just as defective as other manufacturers (witness the total botch of the latest Crapple phone that gace bad reception when you held it to your ear)

Pound for pound the competition gives better value for money.

As for recommendations - I'm not up on the mp3 market - anything electronic changes too quickly to monitor unless you are actively seeking at that time. Something that plugs into the PC and lets you treat it as a plug in hard drive works for me - so you don't have to install and use crapple I-tunes which dumps everything on the I-pod regardless of whether you want it on there or not (unless they have changed this in past years)

I'm just not a labels person. There will be plenty of online reviews of alternatives to weed out the wheat from the chaff.

I took everything out of the shelf and placed Christmas related stuff in it.

Just to clarify - is it a gay deocrating sing to have a Christmas tree, or a gay decorating sin to NOT have a Christmas tree?

Everything I need to know, I learned from Noah's Ark!

ONE: Don't miss the boat.
TWO: Remember that we are all in the same boat!
THREE: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.
FOUR: Stay fit. When you're 60 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
FIVE: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
SIX: Build your future on high ground.
SEVEN: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
EIGHT: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
NINE: When you're stressed, float awhile.
TEN: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

I'm sure she will be fine. Midnight used to whine and bark when we dropped her off; one time we went to the car and then doubled back to check on her and she was eating an ice pop and having the time of her life! We left her there for 2 weeks once and she didn't want to leave! :rollseyes

A 21 year old was killed in traffic on New Year's Day at 4 in the morning, down on the beach highway in the little town where we used to live. That happens to be the exact same age as my daughter. You don't think that made me think twice? :uh

OMG that was amazing!

Lauren just got the email that is supposed to be the poem written by a girl who didn't drink and drive at a party (because she listened to her mom) but was killed on the way home by someone who had been drinking... Lauren signed the petition and forwarded it on to everybody in her email box. :lol :love At 11 we might have another year or two before it's a real concern, but I'm glad she's making the right choice. :love

We've had several teens die in car accidents recently. :( One of them was killed right up the street from my parents house. She was on the 4 lane section of a road, passing her friends, when her lane ended. She apparently wasn't looking because there were no skid marks. She hit a big metal pole and was not wearing a seat belt.

An old refrain from me, but kids and cars are so often a lethal mix...:no

My SIL and BIL wouldn't allow any of their four kids to get their learner's permits until they were 17, and then didn't allow them to take their drivers' tests until they had logged an astronomical number of hours of driving with Mom and Dad. They never had ANY issues with any of their kids driving. Another friend let her kids get their permits at 16, take the exam at 17, and then sent them to the grocery store every five minutes for the smallest of errands, to take the fun and novelty right out of driving. She didn't have any problems, either. Our own kids weren't allowed to have passengers until they were out of high school - and they both knew that if we found out they'd broken that rule, they wouldn't be driving until they were, oh, 35. :rotfl

Have you guys seen this video? Or heard of his story? Seems it's gone viral and he's landing big offers now. It's a great story.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTysXITBCmk&feature=player_embedded

UPDATE-1: Many thanks go out to all of you who have been tossing phone numbers and e-mails my way for Ted's sake. I went up to Hudson/I-71 (Columbus) today, but Ted wasn't there. He is going to be on air tomorrow morning on radio station WNCI. I've left my contact info w/WNCI to call/e-mail me on a way to get your enormous opportunities over to him.

I'm going to give him a Trac phone (w/ample minutes) so that he can return calls to all of you.

Hopefully, in some way I'll get in contact w/him. Peace.

UPDATE-2: To all those who have been writing me (as one of Ted's only means of contact), I have learned that the radio station interviewing him tomorrow (1-5-11) a.m. is going to make him a formal offer. Whether true or not, we'll see.

Hope it works out well for him. That was the whole point of me posting this video. I cannot thank enough everyone who was willing to do their part in offering Ted their helping hand.

Whoever lands him is certainly getting much more than a memorable personality; they're getting a great human being as part of their team.

My best to all.

UPDATE-FINAL: Well everyone. You can give yourselves and Ted a high-five. He's being given offers hand-over-fist over the air. He'll be set for life.

My request to all. Whenever you run across a story such as this, don't assume it'll take a life of its own, on its own. It won't. It can't. There are too many other stories that drown out the one before it.

You need to spend time to get that story and its word out to many. If you care, you'll do it.

Keep the faith, pay forward and always lend a hand; even if you're the one who needs it.

God bless Mr. Williams. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of him for sometime to come.

. . . but one thing that hasn't been mentioned (at least that I've seen) is that this guy clearly has a serious problem with drugs and alcohol and as much as we want this to have a happy ending, the story's not over yet. I really, really, REALLY hope he's got some good support around him. I'm a little afraid there are people around him who are throwing money at him so they can profit from his fame right now, but 6 months from now - when nobody cares anymore - they'll just abandon him if he starts hitting the bottle again.

Our local morning radio show is mostly talk and they encourage people to call in. Many times they get crackpots who ramble on, but this morning they got a guy from Cleveland who now lives in the area. When this hit the news he got a call from his girlfriend who then sent him the video link; it seems this is the man who robbed her little store 2 years ago and terrorized the patrons. Not sure if this was one on the reasons he was in jail or not as I haven't really been paying that much attention. I did see him on the news last night and he was all cleaned up and looking decent. He wants to come to NY to see his elderly mom (she is 92), but has no picture ID so they are working on that as well. I am all in favor of people getting a second chance after they have paid their dues so I do hope he can turn his life around, but only time will tell.

Cleaning House with Gordon

While spending an afternoon wasting time playing Facebook games, I noticed in the glare of the setting sun that the TV screen needs to be cleaned. I get up to get the supplies needed for said cleaning and noticed I'd left the vacuum cleaner next to the washer and dryer where I was going to use it to vacuum the lint traps. I vacuum the lint traps and go to put the vacuum cleaner away only to pass by the hallway bathroom where kitty's litter is. I proceed to empty kitty's litter and noticed the trash bin needed emptying as well. I empty the kitty litter and trash bin in the kitchen and noticed the floor could use some sweeping. I sweep the kitchen floor and while doing so noticed I'd left some items on the dining table. I put away the items but not before noticing the dining table needed to be polished. I promptly polish the dining table. Satisfied, I proceed back to the computer to reward myself with some more wasted time playing games, when I notice in the glare of the afternoon sun, that I had neglected to clean the TV screen. What I intended on doing all along, never got done. Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.:rollseyes:rollseyes:r ollseyes

Barnum42

If it's what I think - turning Star Tours into a Pod Race, I'm not sure.

3D action may prove great fun, but the prequels just don't have the character and heart of the original trillogy, so they are dealing with characters that have less connection with the audience. It would be like replacing Peter Pan's flight with the latest high-tech thrill ride based around the adventures of Gurgie in The Black Cauldron.

Doug11

No, from what I have read about the new Star Tours, it won't be about pod racing. It seems you might be sent on holiday to the moons of Endor, Tattoine or one other place randomly any time you ride, with C3PO as your guide, all in 3D.

And it might be open sometime this calendar year. :D

Getting really ticked off with the house buying process.

On the plus side, it looks like my apartment sale is still going to happen.

On the negative side, it's not looking good for the house I'm hoping to purchase. I was buying it without a chain - the owner said she'd be going straight into rented as she's desperate to sell. She's now decided she wants to buy a new build using the money from the sale. But a the new build won't be ready for at least four months is not willing to first go into rented.

Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face. She's going to lose me as a buyer - the first one she's had since first tying to sell in 2008 rather than "go through the hassle of moving twice". If she loses me as the buyer, she can no longer afford the new build.

You wonder what goes through some people's minds. Or lack of mind.

I loved True Grit but hated Kids are Alright. I think the thing that bothered me about Kids are Alright is the previews made it look like a comedy, but all the funny scenes were in the trailer and the rest was pretty dreary and miserable. I don't have any idea how that got nominated. The people voting must have thought they'd look progressive if they voted for a movie that had lesbians.:shrug

"Up" won the Best Animated Feature film award last year - but it was also nominated for Best Picture ("The Hurt Locker" won).

I've seen Inception, True Grit, TS 3, and plan to see The King's Speech this weekend.

Beauty and the Beast was the first animated film ever nominated.

I think it will be hard for a animated film to win Best Picture because that is why Best Animated Feature was created. I don't think animated films would even get nominated if it wasn't for the increase in the list last year. I think it's 10 now.

I read Wall-E had the best chance for Best Picture but wasn't nominated.
