I'd love a place to myself, but that's not really an option right now. This whole thing just sucks because a rift betwen two of them just got so bad that one is moving out. Feelings are being hurt and cruel things are being said. And since one of the girls got our RA involved, we now have to go through a "roommate meeting" with him to try and work stuff out. We all know how its going to end though. I just want to be left out of this. I'm a nonfactor and just want to deal with my own life. Ugh. This semester wasn't supposed to be this rough.

An open question to the gang - when visiting Florida. what's the best way to purchase a pay as you go SIM card for my cell phone to use whilst over there.
Using a Biritish SIM, they'll charge me $2 just to fart, never mind make a call or send a text, so I figured getting a SIM card would be the best option. What's available and what are the charges?
Cheers :)

Turn to the expert for advice - ask og! :lol He used a cell phone two summers ago when we all met up with Erik and Shannon at WDW.
Sara and Jason had their home phone set up so that they could use their cell phone to call from Hong Kong (and Katie and I could call their cell phone from their home phone) for free while they were there after Christmas. They have a cable phone - I have no idea how that worked, but it did. Jason said it was only a minimal charge for that service. Maybe you could do something similar for calling the folks back home in Great Britain, but as for calls from one cell phone to another while you're over here, I don't know. :dunno

Getting a PAYG is probably the cheapest way for sure, I just could never be bothered with it. Going to Florida is probably the one time I'm totally disconnected from the world and I like it!
If I remember correctly, if you want to use your phone from here just with a new SIM, you'll be limited to AT&T or T-Mobile. And of course the phone will need to either be Tri (or ideally) quad-band.
I *think* I was roaming on AT&T and I only have a tri-band.

Our reaction to the Tebow commercial:
"Wait...was that the controversial Tebow commercial?"
Lmaybe there is another one later or something"
This was at a party so it wasn't like we were glued to the commercials. I'm sure it was plenty controversial - it just didn't look like much.
Assuming that was the original commercial (and not edited), then I'd say opponents were out of line to criticize it. You can't prevent someone from running a commercial just because you don't like the group who's running it.
Overall, the commercials did nothing for me.:dunno
The only moment I remember laughing was with Jim McMahon's leopard thong. The Troy Polamalu one was an amusing visual, but other than the visual, it didn't make sense and offer anything else interesting (unless there was an inside joke I was missing).
The one commercial that worked for me (and frankly I don't even remember what was in the commercial) was for the Flo TV . . . because that looked COOL!
. . . but I stopped by Best Buy yesterday, ready to buy one, and was disappointed with the picture and video quality.
Katie4075
02-09-2010, 12:31 PM
That surprises me, it certainly didn't fill the big shoes all the hype had made for it, IMO. :dunno
Thats what we were talking about actually. We all were expecting big things from it, and all we got was Tim tackling his mother. There were two commercials, one before the game and one during this first quarter, but both were similar. If you moved to the website, then you got the whole 15 minute pro-life speech, but thats not what was shown on TV. People freaked out over very little, unless they don't like the internet.
This could be very good or bad for Tebow, we'll just have to see.

I found the Circuit City and Best Buy stores here had an uncanny ability to make whatever HDTV they were pushing to sell appear to have the best picture. When I bought my Sony Bravia 2 years ago, I didn't feel so good about the purchase leaving the store, but when I got everything hooked up at home, the picture was as good as advertised and much better than in the Best Buy store.
Weird, huh?
I missed the Flo TV commercial. Was that one with guys in their underwear or midgets? . . . or something else? :lookaroun

It seemed like it was about 15-20 seconds long and I couldn't understand what all the hubbub was about. I didn't see the full version (tackling version) until last night because NOW has come out and said that it promotes violence against women.

I managed to get out of both Target & WalMart without buying anything today! Looking for a sheer curtain for the dining room window; the wall of the house is white and with all this snow you can't sit on the sofa and watch tv without suffering from a bout of snow blindness.

I bought my first cell phone back in 2005 when I first worked at WDW - just a cheap, pay-as-you-go phone, because that's all I need. It was a dinosaur, to say the least - it had to be recharged every night, and ran out of juice after about three short phone calls. :rotfl I finally went got back and got a new one, and the guy in the store said, "Wow, I haven't seen one of these in, like, EVER..." :rotfl

I'M going to find out the sex, but Stan doesn't want to know, so I'll have to keep it a secret. And also, I do really like yellow. It's my favorite color!
Is the nursery yellow?
It will be :) We've got to clear some stuff out of the room first, and I haven't decided if we're going to paint yet (mostly because the mere thought of it right now makes me exhausted), but the decor and such will be yellow. And probably green. We'll add in other accent colors once the baby's born, based on gender.

I would have never guessed that your graduating high school senior son is younger than mine, born in late July of 1992. With a late September birthday, did he skip a year of school? Yea...I was 17 when I started college and didn't turn 18 until December. That was a loooong time ago.
Out here in NJ, the cutoff for starting school was October 1st. Ryan just made it with his birthday being September 26. We thought about holding him back because he was / is a year younger than everyone else in the grade. They say boys mature later than girls so we were a little worried it would be hard for him. But he takes after Gary and so is bright...so we were afraid he would be really bored if we held him back. He's been bored anyway! He reads A LOT. Like Gary. Anyway, the hardest year for him was his freshman year. I think the transition was really tough. It's hard on kids these days. There is so much pressure. I feel for them! But it has a happy ending (so far!) because he finally found a group of people he "clicked" with at school and has been doing very well. Last year he just blossomed. So, yep he's been accepted to Rutgers and is planning on going there to study Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. He's even been taking Chemistry classes at the local community college in the evening. I told you he was bored! And, think of that, he started that at the beginning of this school year - - and so was a 16 year old college student.
He is looking forward to going to school so much. I hope it all works out well for him!
I'm sure many others here can put in some great stories about their kids!

We were in Florida when our son started into the school system and the cutoff there was August 1. The same is true in Mississippi, where we've lived for the past 10 or 11 years. If I had it all to do over again, I would have held my son out to let him mature. He never needed the extra time for grades - he's never had a "C" grade on a report card in his life, but it would have helped him in his first love of athletics, and it would have also helped him socially. If he were to read that last sentence, he would argue to his last breath that he doesn't need any additional social development, and that is probably true, but "needing" and "benefiting from" are 2 different things. :)
. . . and he'd have had an extra year to maybe knock that ACT score up another point or two, to save me some college tuition money! :lol
